Wedding Tip of the Day by Jan Boyd Calligraphy

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Massachusetts and NYC/Westchester County wedding paper products, Jan Boyd Calligraphy, wrote an expert advice article on my Kate Parker Wedding and we thought we would share a little tip from the article.  Jan Boyd shares a tip for couples when ordering their wedding invitations.  Check it out!

Try to be very organized and thorough about gathering your guest’s addresses. Remember that the list you give to the calligrapher is exactly what is going to go onto the envelope (unless you are lucky enough to have someone catch your typos). ALWAYS order at least 10% more invitations and envelopes than you think you need. Calligraphers are human and occasionally make mistakes. You are human and may have forgotten cousin Sue or your fiancé’s new boss. It’s a lot more expensive to get extra envelopes/invitations after the fact.

New England, NYC, and LA Calligrapher Laura Hooper Calligraphy featured on Style Me Pretty!

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

I just LOVE it when our fabulous vendors are editorially featured in other publications, both in print and on-line.  Style Me Pretty is a VERY fantastic and well-known wedding inspirations blog and they have a collection of hand-selected vendors they have called their “Little Black Book.”  I met the amazing wedding calligrapher, Laura Hooper of Laura Hooper Calligraphy in Las Vegas at Engage Encore 09 and I had seen her work prior, especially with the custom map she created for Maine wedding photographer, Emilie Sommer of Emilie Inc. Photography’s wedding in St. John that we attended and also assisted with her floral and event design!  Laura is so completely down to earth and her talents just amaze me.  That’s why we were thrilled when she decided to join the my Kate Parker Wedding family!  Anyway, my story is getting longer instead of shorter…

I just wanted to bring to your attention Laura’s featured today on the Style Me Pretty Little Black Book blog because my Kate Parker Wedding is about providing clients with the highest quality vendors we can find and the more editorial exposure our vendors get, the more it proves their worth and level of excellence so here’s the link!  Great work Laura! – KP

I LOVE when invitations are hand calligraphed.  The mix of the orange and deep pink really created a fabulously tropical feel too!

Laura Hooper Calligraphy on my Kate Parker WeddingThis invite is so classic and luxurious, with the mix of calligraphy and typed fonts.  I especially love the added calligraphy detail on the back of the envelope.

Probably Laura’s most well-known products are her incredible custom maps.  I think these are the best out there and her details from the wedding location to the little kissing fish in the ocean, she nails these every time.

Massachusetts and Rhode Island Calligraphy - Megan Chapin

Since wedding invitations are generally the first impression for guests, it’s important to pick a style and lettering that is reflective of your personality and tone of the wedding.

Love that this incorporates two letter styles to give it a bit of formality to a casual look.
