Today’s wedding tip of the day comes from Rhode Island paper products, Parrott Design Studio. Sarah wrote a great expert advice article on my Kate Parker Wedding giving some tips on writing thank you notes to your guests. Below is some of the expert advice, to check out the full expert advice, visit my Kate Parker Wedding!
Thank You Notes and Stationary
For the newly, & nearly, wed, it is always important to have stationery on hand for the ever-important thank you notes. A hand-written thank you note is not only appreciated when it comes to engagement, shower, & wedding gifts, it is necessary. Stay organized by keeping a list of guests at each event where you may receive gifts {an engagement party, shower, the wedding…} & have someone record what you received as you open the gifts {as my sister’s maid-of-honor, I did this at her shower}. Once you send the thank you note, check them off. I think it is also nice to write a note to guests you did not receive gifts from, but attended & helped celebrate.

Rhode Island wedding paper products, Parrott Design Studio, is featured in our new series, How To Say ‘I Do’: A Ceremony Planning Series. We thought that wedding ceremonies deserved a series of their own since they are sometimes lost behind the focus of the reception. This weekly series will feature my Kate Parker Wedding vendors sharing advice and tips on wedding ceremonies. After all, saying ‘I do’ to the one you love is the whole point of having a wedding in the first place! This week, Parrott Design Studio gives some tips, advice, and insight into ceremony programs. This advice from Parrott Design Studio is also featured in the Expert Advice posts on my Kate Parker Wedding.
Wedding Programs, by nature of their contents, are a last minute item. Your ceremony is your wedding. Most people {myself completely included} tend to focus on the reception as the wedding, but the reason you have a reception is to celebrate your ceremony where you committed your lives to each other in front of family & friends. Therefore it is understandable that you are working on the details of your ceremony until the last minute possible because it is so important. By the time you are done planning your ceremony you may be thinking, program? Do I really need a program? In a short word, yes.
You want your guests to feel welcomed & involved with your wedding. The more involved they feel, the better experience they will have. Wedding programs allow your guests to follow the ceremony, understand what is happening & why, & it is a keepsake of the day. Programs come in all shapes & sizes & there is no set format on what your program should look like. It should work for you & your ceremony & reflect you as a couple. The key “ingredients” for a program include: your full names, wedding date, city, state, & location of the ceremony, the order of the wedding ceremony including musical selections & the composers & performers, the readings, the source or author, & the readers, wedding party names & their relation to you, your officiant’s name, a thank you note to your parents & guests, & a brief explanation of traditions, rituals, & ethic customs for both religious & secular ceremonies. You may also wish to honor those who have passed or could not join you by including a memorial.
Below are a few of my favorite programs I have designed along with a description of why the format was chosen for that particular ceremony.

Shelley & Willie needed a booklet-style program for their wedding ceremony, which was an elegant affair at the Cosmos Club. The program continued the theme of their invitations & included all of the key ceremony information listed above. They also included an explanation of their wedding ceremony as it was a specific kind & they included why various parts of the ceremony were important. The cover of the program was gocco screen printed & the interior pages were digitally printed.

Jess & Jay were married in July in Maine. Knowing the church where their ceremony was taking place had no air conditioning, we knew a fan was the perfect program. We continued the theme of their wedding invitations using the same design elements, typefaces, & colors. As it was a religious ceremony, the contents included the readings & readers, along with all the music selections on one side. On the other side the wedding party & a note to the guests was included. The fans were digitally printed & hand-assembled.

Gisela & Richard had an art-deco inspired wedding Miami. Gisela wanted to keep the program small {4.5 x 6.26″} but wanted to fit a lot of information so we used every inch of available space. The front featured the same peonies from her invitation. The inside had the ceremony & wedding party information on the left side & their three readings on the right side so guests could follow along. The back included a note to guests & a memorial section. There were not additional pages so the ribbon served a more decorative rather than functional purpose, unlike the first program where the ribbon actually held the interior pages in. This entire program was gocco screen printed.

Larissa & Brennan had a religious ceremony similar to Jess & Jay’s. We decided to go with a simple folded card {5 x 7″}, also continuing the theme of their wedding invitations. The inside pages held the ceremony information on the left side & the wedding party information along with their note to guests on the right side. This entire program was also gocco screen printed.
Going back to my opening sentence – wedding programs are a last minute item. These four programs were designed, printed, assembled, & delivered all under two weeks before the big day. That first one arrived the day before the ceremony {which is actually cutting it just a bit too close for my comfort!}. With that being said, beautiful & practical programs are completely possible, even if you think you do not have enough time!

Rhode Island wedding paper products, Parrott Design Studio is featured in the spotlight this week on my Kate Parker Wedding. Parrott Design Studio creates letterpress and screen print wedding invites as well as other stationery. Their beautiful wedding invitation designs are created using couples’ design ideas, color schemes, themes, location, and more. The invitations are unique and Parrott Design Studio can create a stationery masterpiece, no matter what your taste! Check out some of their information below and get to know this wonderful wedding vendor.
Number of Years in Business: I began my design studio about two and half years ago.

Photograph taken by Li Ward of Fat Orange Studio, a member of my Kate Parker Wedding.
Pricing Information: A letterpress invitation suite including an invitation, RSVP postcard, and outer envelope starts around $750 for 100. A full invitation suite including an invitation and RSVP, both with envelopes, a reception card, map, and paper band to hold everything neatly together starts around $1,550 for 100. Almost all of my designs are custom and each couple I work with are different, so prices vary, and I can adapt to any budget.

What makes me stand out in what I do? I offer a custom design experience that is approachable and affordable. Couples are getting more creative and searching for a way to incorporate themselves and their style in their wedding invitations. They want a design that is unique to them as a couple and that is what I offer. All of my designs are custom and start with a conversation with the client about what they envision not only for the paper, but for their day as a whole. If a client likes one of my previous designs, we always start with that as a base, but no two invitations come out the same. With a background in marketing and print design, I think paper is the perfect way to tie details together. From the save the date to the escort cards, invitations to thank you notes, customized stationery carries the theme throughout the day. A coordinated and consistent look makes for an even more memorable wedding for the couple and their guests.

What’s the favorite part of my work? Being creative each day! I love that I am both the designer and printer. I feel so connected to everything I create because I am there from inception of the design, to cutting the paper, to printing each piece of paper on my letterpress, to all the finishing details of enveloping lining and ribbon tying. I love hearing about the details of my client’s wedding – their flowers, colors of their shoes, the historic barn where the reception is taking place. Details are what make a wedding, and my work, extra special. And of course, hearing from a client that their guests loved their invitations is important because the bottom line is not only for me to be fulfilled creatively, but to have a happy client as well. I also love working with other wedding professionals and vendors and would love to work with them more to help in designing and printing their marketing materials.

What do I like to do in my spare time: When I am not printing (or thinking of my next best design!) I can be found planning my own September 2010 wedding with my fiancé, Rich, playing with our pups Simone and Scooter, baking, sewing, listening to records, gardening, and now that winter is here, snowboarding. We love taking mini-road trips, especially to my home state of Maine.

What charity am I supporting and why: I am very excited to have the opportunity to give back through myKPW. I have chosen to support the research, education, and outreach in finding a cure for cancer and also the ASPCA. I chose to support efforts in curing cancer because I lost an uncle to cancer, but also have an aunt who is a breast cancer survivor. In 2008 I had half of my thyroid removed due a tumor, which was potentially cancerous. The tumor was benign, but it was a very real and eye-opening experience. I also chose the ASPCA because every animal deserves a second chance. I am such a lover of all animals! Our lab mixes, Simone and Scooter, are both rescue dogs from the South and they have made our lives so much more joyful.

New England Paper Products company Custom Ceramics by Traci is featured today in our Vendor Spotlight . Custom Ceramics by Traci can create custom, hand painted items for your wedding including wedding guest book platters and wedding gifts. Check out some information about the company as well as some images of her work below.
KM
Number of Years in Business: 6 years
Pricing Information: $59 – $150
What makes me stand out in what I do? I create and hand make unique, one of a kind signature platters. I use a special painting technique that gives the design dimension. My custom wedding platters are an affordable wedding day keepsake and art piece .
What’s the favorite part of my work? Custom work is always a challenging experience, which I love, because it forces me outside of my comfort zone and allows me to be creative. Also, I truly enjoy working with a bride to create a platter that I know will become a cherished wedding day keepsake.
What do I like to do in my spare time: Pilates, Yoga, Watching Comedy television or movies, Painting inspirational art pieces and hanging with my Bijon Frise – Sushi.
What charity am I supporting and why: ASPCA!!!
1) Up to 10 pieces of advice you’d give a bride when considering your product for a guest book or how to work together to achieve the final look.
What do you think you will do with your guest book once the wedding is passed? A signature platter becomes an instant decorative reminder of your special day.
What design do you want in the middle? A custom design can really represent the wedding day and the couple. Ex. Wedding Colors, Invitation design, Representation of something the couple enjoys doing together.
2) Also, we’d love for you to chat about the different ways a bride can use your product and what design or style is popular right now.
The platter is both a decorative and functional piece that can be displayed on a plate stand or used to serve hors d’ouvres or cheese and crackers…making a great party conversation piece. Currently my most popular design is the double linked hearts, the destination wedding palm trees and the cartoon like bride and groom with or without the bridal party, but mostly I receive custom design orders. A custom design really makes the platter extra special.

This is such an adorable idea for your destination or tropical wedding, what a wonderful keepsake.

You can have Traci match the design on your wedding invitation to continue your wedding theme.

This is a simple design that would work great for any wedding, keep in mind that if you want a simple design like this one, you could choose colors that match your wedding.
