Wedding Advice from Meagan Gilpatrick of Maine Seasons Events

Friday, November 13th, 2009

Meagan from Maine Seasons Events shares with brides some creative and practical ways to enhance a guest’s experience at a wedding. Check out some of Meagan’s great ideas!  ~LS

At Maine Seasons Events, we consider many details when choosing elements that will enhance our wedding guests’ experience.  Creating many outdoor weddings, and being in Maine, the weather changes often and sometimes dramatically-having rain ponchos and umbrellas stashed nearby, even on the sunniest of summer days has proven to be a smart idea.

While guests arrive and mingle prior to the wedding ceremony, beverage stations help quench their thirst on warm summer afternoons.  Bamboo fans attached to each wedding program and handed out at the entrance to the ceremony, allow guests to create their own cooling breeze, if Mother Nature isn’t providing one.  And though it is not a new idea, flip flops in baskets by the dance floor have saved many a box of Band Aids from being deployed!

Containers of insect repellent, in multiple forms, DEET and DEET free, are usually found almost empty at the end of a summer wedding on the Maine coast.  Custom embroidered hats for a sunny dock side rehearsal luncheon are a fun way to provide guests relief from the sun’s glare on the ocean.  Heaters in tents for cool autumn weddings, fun kid activates and foods for guests with little ones, and a quiet, comfortable and clean place for new mommies to nurse, feed and change their infants have been important guest specialties at our weddings.  After dinner snacks for dancers and late night party goers, a bouncy castle for kids or college friends to jump on (it’s happened), photo booths and memory tables, featuring photos of the couple as children, their parents and grandparents on their wedding days and even slideshows of the couple growing up, provide guests with sustenance and entertainment.  When thinking of your guests’ experience, consider the season, the weather, the temperature, the hour of the conclusion of the wedding and any special logistic or environmental factors that provide an opportunity to do a little something special.  In many cases guests have gone to great lengths, travel and expense to be with a couple on their wedding day, and it is a kind gesture and good hosting to consider their overall experience.

Living in New Hampshire, we know how viscous those pesky mosquitoes and gnats can be and with something so simple as a couple containers filled with bug spray, guests will be more at ease throughout the night.

Maine Wedding Reception Venue: Diamond’s Edge Restaurant

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Maine wedding reception venue, Diamond’s Edge Restaurant is located on the beautiful Great Diamond Island off the coast of Portland, ME.  The venue offers amazing catering service and a beautiful tented location for your wedding reception.

If you decide to have a island wedding at a venue like Diamond’s Edge one of the most essential items to think about when planning your event is transportation to and from the island.  Before making any final decisions on timing for your ceremony, cocktail hour and reception make sure you take a close look at the available transportation options and their schedule to ensure you are able to get your guests to and from the island on time.  For weddings on Great Diamond Island we recommend Casco Bay Lines.

Barn Weddings – Donald & Trenholm Photographers

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

The rustic charm of a barn wedding is something that is becoming more and more popular among brides as the setting is conformable to many decorating styles or themes.  Check out a barn wedding captured by Heather and Donald from Donald & Trenholm Photographers.

This particular setting was at the Laudholm Farm Reserve in Wells, Maine.  The reception was held in the horse barn next to the main house.  The bride and groom had lighting designers come in and install chandeliers just for their wedding.  Austin said it was absolutely beautiful!

More smiles from Maine Photo Booth Co.

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Peter Small from Maine Photo Booth Co. chats with my KPW about adding some extra smiles to a wedding! Check out their website: Maine Photo Booth Co.

What makes you stand out from other photo booth rentals?

Unlike the “curtain and rod” companies, our photo booth is actually a vintage one with very high-end technology, and compared to national companies, our pricing seems to be one of the lowest. Our cost for booth rental is generally between $1,000 – $1,500.

What does the pricing include?

The pricing includes 5-hour rental, including set-up and breakdown. You can always rent the booth for a longer period of time; every hour is an additional cost. It also includes an unlimited number of 6 individual digital photos, either black and white or color. This cost also includes an attendant to assist guests with the booth or provide some inspiration and ideas when taking photos.

What’s the set-up like for the photo booth?

Well, keep in mind, the photo booth is about 750lbs, so it can take us a little bit of travel time, to and from. We typically like to arrive 2-3 hours prior to the event start time and it generally takes us about 15-20 minutes to place down.

What type of venue is the booth suitable for?

The booth can be placed either inside or outdoors underneath a tent. Sometimes, if the ground seems like it’s going to be a little damp, we’ll put a small floor underneath. One thing to discuss with us when renting a booth is, think about whether or not the booth will have to be taken up to a second floor or moved down narrow hallways. Because the booth is so heavy and wide, steep narrow stairs may not be suitable or even fit.

What is the experience like?

It’s funny, when parents of the bride or groom find out this is something they want at the reception, they’re a bit leery at first thinking that guests wouldn’t use it. But then once they get into it, they’re the ones that love it the most! And it’s fun to watch! As soon as people begin to do it, it becomes very popular and there is always a steady line to get pictures taken. Oh, and the attendant is always there giving ideas to people who don’t know how to pose :)

What cool things can be done with the booth?

We can interchange the curtain to match their wedding (it costs a little bit more to do), or we can wrap the outside of the booth, as well! Also, on the actual print out of the photo, there is a little gap between the photos where the bride and groom can either have their date, names, or a photo. Also, some brides like to have a scrapbook or photo album next to the booth in place of a guestbook. That way, when guests take pictures, they can cut out a few pictures of themselves, place it in the book, and write a message next to it.
