New Hampshire Wedding Venue, Alyson’s Orchard, shares with us some advice and trends! my Kate Parker Wedding vendor,Alyson’s Orchard has been in the wedding venue business for years. They have some great advice to share as well as some trends to share they see in the wedding industry right now. Check them out below!

Advice:

If you have started the process early enough, take your time in selecting a venue. I never pressure clients.  If you connect orchard, you will choose Alyson’s.  It’s as simple as that.

Every question that you have is important to your event, so never hesitate to send me an E-mail.

Any creative idea that you come up with will shape the outcome of your wedding.  Just because it hasn’t been done before doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try and make it happen!

Go with your first instinct.  That is usually where you end up!  If you have a friend whose judgment you trust, bring her along to all of your appointments.

Trends in the Industry:

Fireworks!  We can provide you with a reasonably priced fireworks show or you can hire a professional fireworks company.  It certainly adds a lot of “sparkle” to any wedding celebration!

Dare to be different!  Fly in to your ceremony! (We have an actual runway on which small planes can land with prior permission.) Ride in on horseback!  Get married on the raft in the middle of our pond!  Take off in a hot air balloon right after your ceremony!  We have plenty of room to allow your imagination to run wild!!

Animals are welcome at Alyson’s, so your dog can be part of your wedding!  We had a dog as a ring bearer this season…fabulous!

Couples on a budget are opting for smaller weddings, but smaller doesn’t have to mean “less.” Consider our Sunday Sunset Wedding for half the price!

An outdoor wedding may be every brides’ dream but it is important to be able to offer an indoor solution if Mother Nature does not cooperate.  Our spectacular Orchard Room adapts to any situation with enough space to move your wedding indoors, if necessary.

Instead of spending a fortune on table centerpieces, opt for a big bowl of polished red apples in the fall.  In place of a cake, have a pie buffet and use individual pies as centerpieces on footed cake plates until dessert time, each with its own special bride & groom that you create!

Color!  I am seeing more interesting color combinations in linens, napkins and decorations.  Be bold.  If you love red & turquoise, go for it!

Real Weddings from Real Vendors: Melissa and Nichole

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

This week, New Hampshire wedding photographerMelissa Koren Photography shares her wedding with my Kate Parker Wedding!  For our blog series, Real Weddings from Real Vendors, we asked Melissa Koren about her special day with Nichole!  Melissa and Nichole were married on April 26, 2008.  Check out their wedding below and get to know Melissa and Nichole!

Top 3 Priorities:

1) THE FOOD!  We were determined that we would have fabulous wedding food.  We did a lot of research and made a lot of decisions.  We pared down our wants a lot but in the end the Sheraton Harborside did an AMAZING job.  We had a mashed potato bar, pasta station, stir fry & pot stickers and the best of all? minis.  Mini Grilled Cheese w/ Tomato soup shooter, Mini PB&J with Milk shooter, Mini Mac & Cheese ramekins and mini calzones.

We had stations all over the ballroom and the guests had to mingle about and cover a lot of ground to find what everything was, but it was a blast!

We wanted our guests to enjoy the food, not just choke down another stuffed chicken breast.  And it worked.  They still talk about how it was the best wedding food they ever ate.

2) The Date.  April 26th is Nichole’s grandparents anniversary.  It happened to fall on a Saturday in 2008 and that seemed to absolutely be the way to go.  It helped us in picking a venue location too – not available? not an option!  And being fixated with numbers I love that it ends up being 2,4,6,8 :)

3) That it was a wedding that truly reflected us and that everyone had fun in the celebration.  I think we accomplished it really well.

After our lovely ceremony at the church where I’ve worked for nearly the entirety of our relationship, officiated by the pastor, a woman who has known us since the beginning, we skipped down the aisle to the “Charlie Brown Theme” – rocked out on by the organ & cello. The reception was highlighted by the food, great music & care bear cake toppers that couldn’t have fit us better – while walking through Target we saw them in their little package and it was sort of an instantaneous “those need to be on our cake!”  We had Jenness Farm goats milk soap favors in chocolate and lilac, tied in chocolate and lilac ribbon, each with a little favor card with a fun quote about love and relationships on it.  My favorite of which is “Love is like pi – natural, irrational, and very important.”  Our wedding party was a very integral part too.  Initially we were going to just have one person each, but after a few weeks of sitting with that it didn’t feel right and we added in two more.  I can’t imagine having done it with out them.  And also Benjamin – our (then) 7 year old.  He was our ring bearer and it was so awesome to be able to have him as a part of everything!

Any Changes?:

I think I would have changed my dress.  I loved it and I worked really hard to fit into it, but in the end I just didn’t feel ‘comfortable’ in it.  I definitely wanted the color ‘pop’ but ultimately I think I should have forgone it for a more flattering style.

Also we didn’t take as much time as we should have to make the rounds and see everyone.

Overall though we worked really hard to have it be OUR wedding and all our vendors worked so well with us to make sure that happened!

What Wouldn’t you change?:

Anything else.  It was such a celebration of family and friends and love!

Our First Dance:

She; Elvis Costello

Nichole asked if she could pick the first dance and surprise me with it and I said yes.  She tried to change her mind and have me pick a few times during the process but I held fast.  It was such a great moment to look forward to!

Capturing special moments … without micro-managing

It’s ok to ask a lot of questions, but at the end of the day you are hiring a professional filmmaker because you genuinely like their work and style and have trust in their abilities. If you try to micro manage the film aspect of your wedding, the filmmaker will be more focused on getting your list of specific shots and may miss key moments that in the end, would have meant a lot more to you. Educate your filmmaker on what’s important to you but don’t overwhelm them with so many details that they can’t do their job.

A KPW Wedding in Southern New Hampshire

Emily and Jake’s wedding took place at a private home in Auburn, NH on August 29th, 2009.  Through the use of classic sunflowers combined with antique blue hydrangea and copper buckets we were able to create a beautiful wedding with a slight rustic feel and although we were forced to deal with a bit of rain, we were able to fully utilize not only an amazing barn space but two separate tented areas as well.

My Kate Parker Wedding - Emily and JakeHaving the ceremony inside rather then outside turned out to be wonderful. The barn was able to create a cozy, intimate space for everyone.

My Kate Parker Wedding - Emily and JakeWe used brown galvanized buckets filled with sunflowers to line the ceremony aisle.  For guest seating we decided to use wooden picnic style benches which helped utilize the smaller space and keep a casual feel.

My Kate Parker Wedding - Emily and JakeThis bridal bouquet was made of sunflowers, light blue delphinium, dark blue delphinium and dark blue Larkspur.  The combination created a very fun, summer feel.

My Kate Parker Wedding - Emily and JakeWe decided to Re-use the ceremony location and transition it into an evening lounge space for the wedding guests.  Combining the brown leather furniture and colorful star lanterns created a fun and relaxing space.

My Kate Parker Wedding - Emily and JakeTwo of these arrangements were used at the entrance to the ceremony aisle, we then re-used them a the entrance to the dining tent (we always try to re-use flowers if possible).  The arrangements were made of light blue variegated hydrangea, medium and large sunflowers, purple veronica, light and dark purple larkspur, and studded with variegated Pittosporum greens.

My Kate Parker Wedding - Emily and JakeThis wedding utilized multiple outdoor spaces including a barn and two separate tented areas, by using varying paper lantern colors and shapes in each space we were able to keep a casual fun feeling.

My Kate Parker Wedding - Emily and JakeThese birch bark votive candles are a great way to add a little rustic element to your wedding without going overboard.

My Kate Parker Wedding - Emily and JakeThe centerpieces were made of variegated blue Hydrangea, miniature green Hydrangea, miniature yellow Calla Lilies, dark blue Delphinium, light blue Delphinium, dark purple Larkspur, and light purple Larkspur.  The table linens, chairs,  glassware, china and flatware, all from Be Or Guest Party Rental, worked beautifully together and the lemon slice in the water glass added the finishing touch.

My Kate Parker Wedding - Emily and JakeWe used white paper lanterns in the ceiling of the main tent as well as some uplighting to create a more intimate and festive feel . . . check out the final result below.
