Today is Rustic Monday on my Kate Parker Wedding. Since it is our first ever Rustic Monday, we thought it would be a good idea to give examples of what “rustic” actually is. Many weddings have rustic aspects mixed in with a vintage styled wedding. We decided to show some rustic elements of weddings, like a wedding gown, table scape, and wedding decor in order to sort of define what rustic is. We hope you enjoy our first of many Rustic Mondays!
Rustic Wedding Gown and Rustic Bouquet:

Above and Below Vendors Involved: NYC/Westchester County wedding photographer, Dove Photography
Why is this rustic? Sunflowers are wildflowers, which gives them a very organic and natural look. The gown in the photographs has an empire waist with lace embroidery giving it a rustic look.

Rustic Wedding Ceremony:

Vendors Involved: New Hampshire wedding photographer, Melissa Koren Photography
Why is this rustic? I think “barn” simply does it. Barns are exactly what what comes to my mind when I hear “rustic wedding”.
The aged wood and the outdoor location are a natural look for a wedding ceremony.
Rustic Wedding Reception Venue:

Vendors Involved: Connecticut wedding photographer, Carla Ten Eyck Photography
Why is this rustic? The wooden floors and walls make for a very rustic style. Using paper lanterns above instead of chandeliers gives a dim and more natural lighting to the space.
Rustic Wedding Cuisine:

Vendors Involved: Connecticut wedding caterer, La Cuisine
Why is this rustic? This caterer chose to cook in large metal woks on open heat which gives the cuisine an organic twist.

Vendors Involved: Massachusetts wedding photographer, Relive Photography
Why is this rustic? The wooden serving board is a creative way to add a natural feel to your hors d’oeuvres.
Rustic Wedding Paper Products:

Vendors Involved: Connecticut wedding photographer, Carla Ten Eyck Photography
Why is this rustic? Creating home-made place cards are a great way to get a rustic look. The color scheme, wildflower patterns, and handwriting all comes together to make for rustic place cards.

Vendors Involved: Chicago, Connecticut, NYC, Rhode Island, Savannah, Vermont, and Washington D.C. wedding paper products, Tulaloo Stationery Studio
Why is this rustic? The twigs and twine really give these programs a natural, rustic look.
Rustic Wedding Table Scape:

Vendors Involved: Bernadette Smith of 14 Stories
Why is this rustic? The tree stump centerpieces with floral tops gives an outdoor feel to this reception. The hanging lights and wooden beams are very rustic as well.

Vendors Involved: Maine wedding planner, Maine Seasons Events; Maine wedding photographer, Brea McDonald Photography; Maine wedding paper products, Griffin-vites Stationery
Why is this rustic? The knit menu holder gives the table setting a home-made feel. The color scheme is also a great way to get an outdoor feel for an indoor reception.
The candle lit table and green colors all help to tie this rustic table scape together.
Rustic Wedding Decor/Accessories:

Vendors Involved: Connecticut wedding planner, Sixpence for your Shoe and Troy Photography
Why is this rustic? The hay, used as a hanging spot for the place cards, gives this wedding a very rustic look.

Vendors Involved: Connecticut wedding photographer, Carla Ten Eyck Photography
Why is this rustic? The worn down wooden sign is a great way to direct guests to the wedding site and give guests a sneak peak at the rustic styled wedding.

Vendors Involved: Connecticut wedding photographer, Carla Ten Eyck Photography
Why is this rustic? The background for this decor is very barn-like. The photographs are hung by a natural green colored ribbon and the brown frames tied together are very rustic elements.
Rustic Wedding Cake:

Vendors Involved: Maine and New Hampshire wedding cakes, Wild Orchid Baking Company
Why is this rustic? The birch bark styled fondant gives this cake a woodsy feel. The leaves strewn about also help make this cake look rustic.

my Kate Parker Wedding is your online wedding resource guide geared towards directing couples to quality vendors based on their price range and state.

Wednesdays are now vintage Wednesdays on my Kate Parker Wedding! For our first vintage Wednesday, we thought it would be a good idea to show examples of vintage items that are featured throughout weddings. We’ll go through everything from tableware to the brides veil. Since vintage, classic, and rustic sometimes overlap each other, we thought we would pull out components from weddings that epitomize what vintage is! Click on the photographs to see which vendors are featured and check out our vintage tutorial below!
Vintage Gown:

Vendors Involved: Maine and New Hampshire wedding attire, Occasions Bridal & Tuxedo; Maine wedding photographer, Brea McDonald Photography;
Why is this vintage? The lace that covers the dress gives has a very vintage feel. The small bow and the off-white color also accentuates the vintage feel.
Vintage Glassware:

Vendors Involved: Connecticut and Rhode Island wedding photographer, Carla Ten Eyck; Connecticut wedding planner, Jubilee Events; Connecticut and Rhode Island wedding attire, The White Dress by the Shore
Why is this vintage? The clear glassware with a gold rim gives an old antique feel, almost like old china from Paris.
Vintage Hairpiece:

Vendors Involved: Connecticut wedding photographer, Candace Jeffery Photography
Why is this vintage? The birdcage veil has been a classicly vintage look for brides. This style of veil was a very popular look from the 20’s-40′.
Vintage Tableware:

Vendors Involved: Connecticut and Rhode Island wedding planner, Carla Ten Eyck; Connecticut wedding planner, Jubilee Events
The mismatched place settings and floral motif is very vintage. The gold elements mixed in with the pops of color are a great way to add small vintage elements in your wedding place settings. The china is also a great way to pull vintage elements into modern inspired colors.
Vintage Flowers:

Vendors Involved: Vermont wedding floral design, Petals Floral Design; Vermont wedding photographer, North Photography
Why is this vintage? The garden roses are very vintage. They are a very old variety of rose that still has a distinct rose scent.
Vintage Beauty:

Vendors Involved: New Hampshire wedding photographer, Audra Bayette Photography
Why is this vintage? The red lips, heavy eye liner and nude eyelid are classic old hollywood looks. The pin curls also a very vintage hair style.

Vendors Involved: Connecticut and Vermont wedding beauty, d.d. Nickel Makeup Studio
Why is this vintage? The red lips, soft eyes, and hair swept into a feather is an old hollywood look as well as the photo above. The large jewelry and feather in the hair is also an old fashioned style.
Vintage Venue/Decor:

Vendors Involved: Connecticut wedding planner, Jubilee Events
Why is this vintage? The hangar setting with the old plane in the background is a great example of a vintage setting.

Vendors Involved: Maine wedding planner, Maine Seasons Events; Maine wedding photographer, Sharyn Peavy Photography
Why is this vintage? Old photographs of mom and dad from their wedding is a great way to incorporate a vintage feel to your wedding decor. The frames also have a vintage feel with the dark wood and gold accents.
Vendors Involved: Maine wedding planner, Maine Seasons Events; Maine wedding photographer, Sharyn Peavy Photography
Why is this vintage? These old postcards are a great vintage touch for wedding place cards.
Vintage Cake:

Vendors Involved: Connecticut and Rhode Island wedding photographer, Carla Ten Eyck; Connecticut wedding planner, Jubilee Events; Connecticut and Rhode Island wedding attire, The White Dress by the Shore

Vintage Paper Products:

Maine wedding planner, Meagan Gilpatrick of Maine Seasons Events is featured this week in Real Wedding from Real Vendors. Maine Seasons Events is a member of the my Kate Parker Wedding family and we are excited to feature them in the spotlight! Meagan shares insight, advice, and photographs of her wedding below, so take a took!

1. What were your top 3 priorities when planning your wedding?
This is fun to look back on now after almost ten years and having planned over 120 weddings for other couples and their families- I think I needed a wedding planner! My priorities were that the date be in the autumn in Maine, (I do not enjoy being hot!) that the ceremony be outside and that all of our surviving grandparents be able to attend. (It was on October 1, 2000 and the ceremony was outside on a beautiful 60 degree day in the garden in our backyard, and all 5 grandparents attended, and danced even!)

2. Looking back was there anything you would have changed about your wedding?
I would have hired a professional photographer, instead of a wedding photographer’s apprentice. (who was also a friend’s sister’s boyfriend…you know the story…now I cringe just admitting that, because I continue to hear it from engaged couples-don’t do it!) My biggest regret is that the pictures we have are not very good. There isn’t one close up and properly lit picture of my husband and I, and only a few dark ones of my face during the ceremony, none of his. Obviously we can’t go back and do it over, so the pictures were a big opportunity to capture that one day in our lives. Oh and I have blocked this part out, but the pictures do prove that it happened: the reception venue we had to book (last minute, don’t ask, I wish I had had a planner!) had only white plastic garden chairs (think white lawn style chairs!) for the reception tables, and though it is a petty detail, it has always irked me that we didn’t rent nicer chairs. I also wish we had a bigger budget, ours was tiny and we funded almost the entire event ourselves.

3. Was there anything you wouldn’t change about your wedding?
I wouldn’t change that I married my best friend- my 8th grade boyfriend, the one I have loved more than anyone else, for my entire life, our wedding date, or that my hands touched almost every element of the day, from the cake, the centerpieces, the gardens I planted the summer before the wedding, the decor, my head piece and veil, and even though tiaras may not be en vogue now, I loved mine, I made it out of a silver headband and I wired a vintage brooch to the center, and hand beaded the whole thing, it stayed in place all night! I wouldn’t change that we managed to create a simple and nice little wedding (74 guests) on a shoe string budget. I wouldn’t change that our families were all in attendance and that my little sister flew home from college for 2 days just to be my maid of honor.

4. What was the name of your first dance song?
The Ship Song- by Nick Cave (we also danced to Etta James’ At Last)

Thanks to Meagan and her husband for sharing their wedding with us!

Meagan from Maine Seasons Events shares with brides some creative and practical ways to enhance a guest’s experience at a wedding. Check out some of Meagan’s great ideas! ~LS
At Maine Seasons Events, we consider many details when choosing elements that will enhance our wedding guests’ experience. Creating many outdoor weddings, and being in Maine, the weather changes often and sometimes dramatically-having rain ponchos and umbrellas stashed nearby, even on the sunniest of summer days has proven to be a smart idea.
While guests arrive and mingle prior to the wedding ceremony, beverage stations help quench their thirst on warm summer afternoons. Bamboo fans attached to each wedding program and handed out at the entrance to the ceremony, allow guests to create their own cooling breeze, if Mother Nature isn’t providing one. And though it is not a new idea, flip flops in baskets by the dance floor have saved many a box of Band Aids from being deployed!
Containers of insect repellent, in multiple forms, DEET and DEET free, are usually found almost empty at the end of a summer wedding on the Maine coast. Custom embroidered hats for a sunny dock side rehearsal luncheon are a fun way to provide guests relief from the sun’s glare on the ocean. Heaters in tents for cool autumn weddings, fun kid activates and foods for guests with little ones, and a quiet, comfortable and clean place for new mommies to nurse, feed and change their infants have been important guest specialties at our weddings. After dinner snacks for dancers and late night party goers, a bouncy castle for kids or college friends to jump on (it’s happened), photo booths and memory tables, featuring photos of the couple as children, their parents and grandparents on their wedding days and even slideshows of the couple growing up, provide guests with sustenance and entertainment. When thinking of your guests’ experience, consider the season, the weather, the temperature, the hour of the conclusion of the wedding and any special logistic or environmental factors that provide an opportunity to do a little something special. In many cases guests have gone to great lengths, travel and expense to be with a couple on their wedding day, and it is a kind gesture and good hosting to consider their overall experience.

Living in New Hampshire, we know how viscous those pesky mosquitoes and gnats can be and with something so simple as a couple containers filled with bug spray, guests will be more at ease throughout the night.

Loving this! Simple yet, chic.

Bamboo is such a great texture and perfect for a summer event, whether your wedding is on the beach or at a farm.
