I know that you have probably seen these images already so post today is not original, but I LOVE the balloons and maybe the first bride’s love of all things anthropologie…. But I think the important thing to remember is that whether or not balloons are your thing or not, there are tons of different ways to personalize your engagement photos or wedding photos. Bring props that are important to you and your fiance. For example, fellow myKPW vendor, Sarah Parrott, brought her magnesium plate that she later used to make her letter press save the dates with her during her engagement shoot with another myKPW member, Li Ward.  Or pick a location that has meaning to you.  Matt and I did our engagement shoot at the New England Aquarium on an early Sunday morning and not much depicts our love all things fishy better than those photos. Have the shoot in your own house or apartment or bring your pet along to the shoot!  You get the idea!

A simple touch to your cocktail tables enhances the guest experience and style of your wedding.  Don’t feel as though it needs to be elaborate–you don’t want to “out do” your reception style.  Keep it simple.

New Hampshire and Maine Wedding Attire: Occasions Bridal and Tuxedos provides gowns for a myKPW photo shoot

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

New Hampshire and Maine wedding attire, Occasions Bridal and Tuxedos, teamed with my Kate Parker Wedding and several other talented vendors for myKPW’s first photo shoot at the end of the summer.  We challenged four photographers, a hair and makeup team, a bridal stylist, and a floral designer to create a look unique to each of our four brides according to their ceremony time; morning, afternoon late afternoon and evening.

Ashley, from Occasions Bridal and Tuxedos, graciously offered her studio for the girls to get ready at as she pulled gown options and accessories for each of our brides.  Check out Ashley’s selections!  ~LS

A Morning Bride ~ 11:00am

Ashley:  For Liz I chose a silk organza gown in a soft champagne with a very simple silhouette. Simple shapes and colors reflect morning moods and lighting perfectly. We used two silk flower pins  to create a head piece instead of a veil created a flirty fresh look for the morning bride!

Liz wore a dress by Mikaella ~ $1,250

An Afternoon Bride ~ 2:00pm

Ashely:  Another simple shape for the afternoon bride. The ivory flowing chiffon gave Kate a romantic look, with a touch of crystals around the neckline caught the afternoon sun perfectly.  A bird cage veil added a 40’s flare of class and sophistication. Perfect for the short haired bride.

Kate wore a dress by San Patrick Pamela ~ $700 (!!)

A Late Afternoon Bride ~ 4:00pm

Ashley:  For Amanda we chose a mermaid silhouette. A mermaid cut works well on a taller bride accentuating their height. Adding a long veil to mermaid cuts creates a more dramatic look to sophistication of this gown. Classic pearl jewelry was a nice compliment to the timeless look for Amanda.

Amanda wore a gown by Mikaella ~ $1,200

An Evening Bride ~ 6:00pm

Ashley:  For Later in the day weddings we chose a fuller more dramatic look for Susan. The crimped Chiffon created an elegant yet fun flare. The rouched waist line creates a very slimming silhouette, while the hem cut in angles is sure to elongate any bride. A dramatic feather comb hair piece completed the head to toe look for Susan!

Susan wore a dress by San Patrick Postal ~ $1,500

Wedding Advice from Meagan Gilpatrick of Maine Seasons Events

Friday, November 13th, 2009

Meagan from Maine Seasons Events shares with brides some creative and practical ways to enhance a guest’s experience at a wedding. Check out some of Meagan’s great ideas!  ~LS

At Maine Seasons Events, we consider many details when choosing elements that will enhance our wedding guests’ experience.  Creating many outdoor weddings, and being in Maine, the weather changes often and sometimes dramatically-having rain ponchos and umbrellas stashed nearby, even on the sunniest of summer days has proven to be a smart idea.

While guests arrive and mingle prior to the wedding ceremony, beverage stations help quench their thirst on warm summer afternoons.  Bamboo fans attached to each wedding program and handed out at the entrance to the ceremony, allow guests to create their own cooling breeze, if Mother Nature isn’t providing one.  And though it is not a new idea, flip flops in baskets by the dance floor have saved many a box of Band Aids from being deployed!

Containers of insect repellent, in multiple forms, DEET and DEET free, are usually found almost empty at the end of a summer wedding on the Maine coast.  Custom embroidered hats for a sunny dock side rehearsal luncheon are a fun way to provide guests relief from the sun’s glare on the ocean.  Heaters in tents for cool autumn weddings, fun kid activates and foods for guests with little ones, and a quiet, comfortable and clean place for new mommies to nurse, feed and change their infants have been important guest specialties at our weddings.  After dinner snacks for dancers and late night party goers, a bouncy castle for kids or college friends to jump on (it’s happened), photo booths and memory tables, featuring photos of the couple as children, their parents and grandparents on their wedding days and even slideshows of the couple growing up, provide guests with sustenance and entertainment.  When thinking of your guests’ experience, consider the season, the weather, the temperature, the hour of the conclusion of the wedding and any special logistic or environmental factors that provide an opportunity to do a little something special.  In many cases guests have gone to great lengths, travel and expense to be with a couple on their wedding day, and it is a kind gesture and good hosting to consider their overall experience.

Living in New Hampshire, we know how viscous those pesky mosquitoes and gnats can be and with something so simple as a couple containers filled with bug spray, guests will be more at ease throughout the night.
