Brent and Ashley met through a friend of a friend 9 years ago. They had dated for about 3 years, when they hit a rough patch and ended things. One day Ashley touched base with all her friends to let them know she was moving, Brent heard about her moving plans. Before she left, she and Brent decided to have dinner together. It was during that dinner they decided to give their relationship one more chance.
Brent proposed to Ashley on April 1st, 2007 in Manhattan. Brent and Ashley often loved to go to NYC from Vermont to get away. Brent asked Ashley's parents permission. Ashley had her sister Meaghan help warm them up to the idea.
In New York, they chose to eat at a restaurant called the Blue Fin. It was a special restaurant that Ashley had wanted to try. During the meal, Brent could not find the right time to propose. He thought about posting his proposal on the Times Square display screen, but he was afraid Ashley would miss it. Finally, while in their hotel at the Marriott Marquis, Brent proposed in the elevator with a bunch of other guests watching. Ashley, naturally said yes and put the ring on herself. Later she made Brent put the ring on.
In planning the wedding Ashley wanted the wedding to be fun and funky. She chose to add whimsical touches such as wheat grass filled with handcrafted pinwheels for the table place cards. Her favorite colors match her personality, vibrant, creative and bold. Hot pink, green and black. She wanted her wedding and reception to be fun and knew those bright colors would make their wedding day memorable. Brent's contribution to the the planning was to request mac and cheese and/or chicken wings. Ashley did not want formal wedding shoes, so Brent got to choose shoes for himself and the groomsmen.
Ashley handled a lot of the details and planning herself. Her mother runs an non-profit art organization in Manchester Vermont. Creativity runs in the family, Ashley is the great niece of the famous designer, George Nelson. Table numbers were based on the subway lines in Manhattan. A favorite place to visit for Ashley and Brent. Her ceremony containers had to be unique and black with simple clean lines and lots of color from the flowers. The centerpieces were different hot pink Gerber varieties in green glass accented with lime green flowers
The day was amazing, warm for spring in Vermont. Trees and grass were blossoming. The landscape in the mountains of Manchester were a bright brilliant shade of green. This is why the french named the state "Vermont", green mountains. Ashley's photographer captured the fun and playfulness of the wedding party and the day.
